sick burn

My friend The Brit and I were having a lovely lunch **today and discussing everything under the sun. One of these things was the fella I have a crush on.
The Brit (who is having a really bad hair day today!)has the perfect answer as to why the guy doesn't like me-
I'm like an old used car.
More specifically, like an old yellow Renault, and who would want to drive that?

I could do nothing but laugh my ass off.
What a great explanation.
Nobody wants an old broken-down used car.

**I originally posted this in March of 2008. Reading it now, I still laugh at my friend's viewpoint. I miss having lunch nearly every day with someone so honest- so incredibly unafraid of causing waves. My friend, the Brit, is not my biggest fan. However, he enjoys spending time with me and telling me his stories while he cringes through mine.

While I have many friends who believe that I am a good person and see that my intentions are generally positive, it is a great reality check to hear things like this on occasion. I think I need more of this. Less support of my current path from people who want the best for me.

I need to step back and take a look into what I'm doing from an untinted perspective. So, I'll be calling the Brit today to schedule a dinner for this week. I can't wait to hear what he's been up to as well. There is always some DRAMATIC story that he shares with me while he tells me Americans have no morals... like the time he dated his cousin and his uncle chased him out of the country with threats of murder.

That effing Brit. He doesn't know how good the ride in those Renaults can be.

He was obviously too busy having SEXY TIME WITH HIS COUSIN during that lesson.

I prefer cars that are older than I am. Maybe not broken, but it's inescapable that they've been previously enjoyed which does nothing to detract for the quality of such a fine automobile.

(I'd also drive the ass off it too. All over the place.)

Idiot people these days want only new Ferraris, which need all sorts of special fuels and are made mostly of plastic and are frail and will fall apart at the slightest incident. Who wants that junk.

That's my analogy.

Don't be ridiculous, you're not a Renault.

Well, it's good to see you have friends who give you lots of encouragement.

gb, he loves his family very much.

danpants, that's the nicest thing anyone has said in the last hour or so. Thanks.

scotty, what then- a pinto?

mister underhill, with friends like mine, I certainly don't need enemies.

WHY are you like a used car, exactly?

Hey wait ... Renaults are French? French chicks are hot.

You're more of a Mercedes.

Puhleeze. Must I show you?

Wow. I prefer my women to be broken in and broken, because it saves me a lot of time. Plus, they're usually too tired to find the somebody better they deserve.

tc, because I am American, divorced, and I date multiple people.

jay, I hadn't noticed.

suze, a diesel or regular?

scotty, please do.

pistols, now that's the attitude I like!

And you are ok with that? Girl, there is nothing like a little bit of a paint job, detail, and nice rims cant do to fix that up. It just means that you are perfect, you may not have the new car smell but your seats are comfortable, your mirrors are set just in the right way, and your steering wheel has just the right spots polished.

I like it that you are an old car. It means that you have experience.

you're like an old used car?? now that's something every girl really wants to hear... you're vintage. well they say that whatever is old comes back as new again?

mistress, I'm totally okay with being called a used car. The Brit is always harsh with me, so this is not surprising to me. Last week, he was calling me the devil, so this is an improvement.

jo, everything DOES come back like new. Allllllright!

slyde, oh you would, would you?

Okay, as far as cars are just cars, that one super-cute Renault!

And as far as you are the car, you're not "old and used". You're loved and cherished, full of fun stories and memories of amazing things, while still up for new adventures.
